Toddler Program

Educational Program

We believe that children learn through play and that play is vital to the whole development of a child. Our goal is to assist children by providing stimulating activities and a creative environment where they are free to explore and experience the world around them.

The teaching staff plan their educational program around weekly themes and discuss/teach concepts during daily group times. Benefits and skills emerging from play experience include: taking initiative, satisfaction and confidence, social skills, skills in manipulating objects and coordination, language and expression, mastering basic concepts, increased curiosity and discovery.

The daycare provides blocks, table toys, dramatic play center, sand or water play, art center, books, puzzles and music which are all designed to encourage your child’s growth and development in all areas such as intellectual, social, physical, emotional and creative.  We change the setup of different areas throughout the year.

Active Play Policy

To support children’s healthy physical development, and meet the requirements of The Active Play Initiative, we incorporate into our daily routine a minimum of 120 minutes of active play and physical movement and we ensure a minimum of 60 minutes per day of outdoor active play.

Active play includes:

  • Free play – bike riding, scooters, climbing, sliding, digging, running and jumping;

  • Adult-directed games – dancing, music and movement, yoga or ball games;

  • Movement skills – balance beams, walking on blocks, catching, throwing, rolling, striking, galloping and hoping;

  • Physical Literacy – daily physical games and activities aimed at developing age appropriate physical confidence, including: establishing purposeful physical activities for all children, free creative movement including dancing with musical instruments, the parachute game, catching and throwing.

  • Fundamental Movement Skills – hop, skip, catch, run, kick, jump, throw and roll to foster the growth and development of each child’s basic physical motor skills.
